What you focus on will become manifest to you...
Riding a motorbike at speed along a curvy open road must count as being one of life's greatest pleasures, if you haven't tried this, I recommend it...
I bought my bike when we lived in Las Vegas - as seen in the picture - from Red Rock Harley Davidson. I didn't have a licence and had never ridden a bike of any kind - so this was my first...
Buying the fastest most powerful Bike that Harley Davidson have ever made as a first ride will be the subject of a separate Blog...
I took my lessons at Las Vegas Harley Davidson - a four day intensive course, with classroom tuition and supervised riding in a secure area.
For those of you who have been, Las Vegas Harley Davidson is on South Eastern and East Sahara - just behind the Panda Express...
In the fenced off car park, we took our 500cc Buells and prepared to ride the circuit. In the middle of this 2 acre plot there is a large concrete block that supports the lighting system for the parking area - it was painted with broad diagonal yellow and black stripes for visibility.
As we lined up for our initial briefing the instructor gave us the first rule of riding a bike which is;
"What you look at is what you will hit. In this car park there are two things that you should not look at; Me and that Concrete Block..."
This rule is important to remember, not just on a Bike but in Life and in Business. We are attracted to that which we give our attention.
Imagine a Biker riding around a sweeping right hand bend; See the image below. As she enters the bend her attention should be on the exit point - not the Tree half way round. On a bike, we intuitively ride towards where we look - looking at the Tree may result in the Tree being hit...
In the middle of our Brain is a small area known as the Reticular Activation System or RAS.
The RAS controls our arousal and sleep-wake transitions, it also influences the focus and attention we give to the world around us; enabling us to move towards that we give attention too and avoid or delete that which we do not.
Having goals and objectives both personally and professionally will help us set our RAS and we will begin to recognise opportunities and patterns that are in sympathy with whatever we choose. Too many people focus on the obstacles in life rather than the opportunities, so guess what shows up for them...?
If we focus on the positive then that is what we begin to recognise in our lives, if we focus on the negative - then equally that is what will miraculously show up for us. We can either focus on our Target or the obstacle or Tree on our journey - it is simply a choice...
I remember seeing a car with a bumper sticker "Shit Happens" on the rear fender, crashed into a ditch with just the rear end visible - perhaps he should have read this Blog to know not to set his RAS that way...
Success in life and business is a self fulfilling prophecy, the opportunity we have is that we can choose whatever prophecy we want. Be careful what you wish for, it may come true; but also be careful who you allow in to your circle of influence; obstacles in the form of negative people can be the most destructive of all.
Oh, and stop watching TV and reading the News - it's not true and nothing there will move you towards your Goal...
And finally remember - to only Look at what you Can Achieve - and nothing else...
Have a great week - I look forward to hearing about your thoughts and success...
